What is AVID? AVID is a 6 year college preparatory program designed for students in the middle who are motivated to attend a 4 year college upon graduation. Many of these students are first generation college students, educationally or economically disadvantaged or under-represented.
About AVID at STMS As a Nationally Recognized Demonstration Site, within a 4th-12th AVID program district, AVID has been an integral part of South Tahoe Middle School since 1997. As a result, STMS has "an atmosphere of college and career readiness for all of its students". We also have a strong partnership with South Tahoe High School (STHS), and our elementary schools are building their AVID feeder programs. With 5 sections of AVID electives, plus core AVID WICOR strategies embedded in every grade and in every subject at STMS, AVID meshes well with the school focus on standards-based instruction, student achievement, and connectedness. Our AVID students are role models for others and selection into AVID is coveted. As one AVID student put it, "AVID paves the way! It is like a friendship... always there when you need it!"
